Implemented under the European Chips Act and co-funded by the CHIPS Joint Undertaking, the Digital Europe Programme and national sources, RO-SMARTSYS operates between 2025–2029 as Romania’s national Chips Competence Centre.
The centre is coordinated by IMT Bucharest, a regional leader in micro – and nanoelectronics, hosting the MINAFAB platform for MEMS, sensors and prototype development in areas such as health, energy and transport.
RO-SMARTSYS is built around six strategic pillars that reinforce Romania’s role in the European semiconductor value chain:
01
Governance and coordination
02
Access to advanced infrastructure
03
SME and startup support
04
Workforce training and skills development
05
Integration within the European network of competence centres
06
Business scaling and market readiness
Our mission
RO-SMARTSYS aims to:
Strengthen Romania’s semiconductor capabilities by offering a single access point to technical expertise, pilot lines, design tools and training.
Support companies, especially SMEs and startups, in developing, validating and scaling semiconductor-based products across multiple application domains.
Contribute to Europe’s Chips Competence Centre network by sharing know-how, co-developing training programmes and collaborating on innovation projects.
Through coordinated action and European collaboration, RO-SMARTSYS helps innovation developed in Romania compete at European and global level.
